Get an early start
To help everyone have a safe, positive, and enjoyable Trek experience, we encourage participants (youth and adults) to begin light physical preparation now. A great goal is at least one 1-hour (or longer) walk, hike, or bike ride each week leading up to Trek.
Young Men and Young Women groups are encouraged to plan at least one group hiking or walking activity per month, lasting 1–2 hours. During these activities, participants should practice good hydration—especially with electrolyte drinks—and wear the same shoes they plan to use during Trek. Breaking in shoes ahead of time is very important, as brand-new shoes during Trek are strongly discouraged.
This preparation will make Trek more comfortable, safer, and much more enjoyable for everyone.
